It also introduces the most influential international buyers to the finest South African creative products and encourages export.

As the only local platform that welcomes advertising, architecture, craft, décor, film, fashion, graphic design, interior design, jewellery, new media, publishing, product design, and visual media under the same roof, Design Indaba Expo is a celebration of diversity.”

Have a look here for more information regarding the event.

We are especially excited about this really beautiful tropical inspired wedding decor shoot that Wedding Album magazine did recently using our Pink Flamingo napkins. How beautiful is this wedding spread? Makes me want to go back and do mine all over again : )

Introducing our new Feisty Floral Watercolour range…

If you follow us on facebooktwitter and/or instagram, you may have noticed a few photos of a new design popping up lately. I am VERY excited about the launch of our new Feisty Floral Watercolour design, available in two different colourways and in a whole array of different products. And at the same time, we are also introducing new cushion sizes and shapes in this design, as well as across all our other new range designs. We can now offer you cushion covers to fit a 40cm x 40cm, 50cm x 50cm, 60cm x 60cm and a rectangular shaped 40cm x 60cm cushion inner.

The Feisty Floral Watercolour design is particularly special to me as I had originally hand painted it and then printed it onto fabric using a silk textile screen a few years ago. I had actually hand painted and printed several versions of it onto various bits of fabric, which I was always going to one day make into pillow cases, tea towels and possibly napkins for myself. I had actually forgotten about the fabric sitting in one of my storage boxes from my Dublin days, and when I did a little clear out and found it, I decided I HAD to add it to my collection. I wanted to keep the hand-painted effect, but without actually having to hand paint it onto many many metres of fabric myself, so I decided to scan in the printed fabric at a very high resolution and then print it digitally back onto a base fabric. As you can see it has kept the grainy watercoloury texture beautifully, and with the help of photoshop I was able to create and offer an alternative colourway.

The beautiful thing about his fabric is that each item is cut from the fabric as we need, so every product will have a unique crop of the design on it, and no two pieces will be alike.

The funny thing is that when I showed the prints to my friend Alex from Windowsill, she immediately referenced the Bromeliad – a beautiful flower, which weirdly enough is the same species as the pineapple, and which I had no idea came in so many colour variations. So I looked them up and have a look at these…

bromeliads

It’s like I referenced them without even knowing they existed!! I am definitely going to have to get me some of these for my home now!

All the above products have been printed and handmade locally here in South Africa. For more information on each of the products you can visit the Handmade By Me online shop. And for a sneak preview of the products themselves head over to SAM (South African Market) where we have our first batch on display.

happy happy…

HappyNewYear_LR

Happy new year errrrr’body!!! Its back to work for most of you this week, so we thought we’d save our happy cheery new year blog post for now rather than last week when most of you were still sipping cocktails on a beach somewhere : ) New years bring new designs, new products, new friends, new collaborations and hopefully lots of exciting new adventures…which, I am delighted to say, we are already in the process of creating….so, as always, watch this space!

And as most of you may have realised by now, 2015 is the year that Marty McFly traveled to in Back to the Future Part II. Here’s a sneak peek of what we will be expected to wear this year ; )

PDVD_006

But seriously wishing all the Handmade By Me friends and family a happy, healthy, successful and a hopefully less dramatically fashionable year ahead!

And what better a way for us to start the new year, than to have our lovely reusable Delft placemats featured in this month’s Condé Nast House & Garden : )

And while we’re at it, some of our napkins were used in a Christmas table decor shoot for One Day Events in the Sunday Times newspaper just before Christmas. Photos by (the seriously talented) Lar. The great thing about these beautiful table settings is that they aren’t only for Christmas!! Click here to get your hands on our Geometric Green napkins now.

Happy Holidays and one last THANK YOU!

We’re off on holiday from today so just a quick “last blog post for 2014″ before we shut down our computers and head off into the sunshine! I am actually off to Dublin for a week so it will hopefully be off into the snow I go….(maybe not quite yet).

I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us in any way this year. Our clients, our customers, our stockists, our suppliers, and most of all our supporters and friends, all of you have been fantastic to work with! Its been a big year, and the best and busiest one yet I think, so thanks for helping us make that happen. I think I’ll do a little recap in January just to get the creative juices flowing again so watch this space.

Wishing you all a merry Christmas (if you celebrate) and hopefully happy holidays for all! We will be back on the 5th of January 2015 (can you believe it’s already 2015?). If you’re looking to buy some of our products over the festive season, we have lots of lovely stockists all over the world, you can find a list of them here.

See you again in the new year!

x Sera

ORIKAMI is a specialty concept store inspired by the ideals of traditional Japanese origami. The brand’s name is rooted in Japanese language: “ori” meaning folding, and “kami” meaning paper.

We source unique, handcrafted products from both new and established designers around the world to bring you specially made items in one convenient location.

Orikami is the only store where you can shop for a variety of origami-inspired products, offering a judiciously selected mix of accessories, furniture, décor, gadgets, and nursery items.

The store’s signature is based upon the values of minimalism. We look to the clean, sharp lines of origami and aim to bring that same form of simplicity into our lives. Our Orikami picks bring art into your home or office space, while remaining to be one of the most unique pieces you will own.”
