Now available from…Fab Things

I have some good news for all you southern suburb Cape Town peeps, Handmade By Me is now stocked by Fab Things just off Dean St in Newlands. Fab Things is a gorgeous little shop stocking all kinds of awesome locally made goods, and is a great place if you are looking for a last minute gift…or just looking to give your home or someone you care about some love.

Their manifesto, which is also written on the window of the shop, says it all…

Here’s what owner Tracey Trevelyan has to say: “The ethos of the brand is about supporting local talent, job creation and social responsibility projects in South Africa. Small quantities are sourced and new fab things introduced continuously, so that Fab fans don’t get bored, and many local designers have a platform to showcase their products. So, if you like something buy it, before it is gone! There really is no reason to import anything, we have great talent and beautifully produced, great quality products right here.”

And while I’m at it, here is a lovely little feature on “Must-have colour schemes for 2014″ from South African Garden and Home magazine. It seems indigo blue is indeed the way to go this year as “classic blue and white goes contemporary”. I know Fab Things have a few of my indigo blue products in stock so pop down there if you’re looking for some on-trend inspiration : )

South African inspirations available in store…

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who came and supported Handmade By Me at the Constantia Gift Fair this last week. We had a disastrously rainy and windy start on Wednesday morning, but by Friday everything was well under way, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable and successful week.

Now I know I have introduced my new South African inspired range to you before (for those of you missed the previous post click here), but I wanted to share the photos from the product shoot that I did. They all sold so well at the Constantia Gift Fair, and make really great gifts for friends and family overseas as they are super easy to post. The cushion covers are available filled or on their own. Chat to me about sending gifts overseas for you, I have designed some beautiful Christmas gift wrap and will be offering a gift wrap and post service from now until Christmas.

Available now from The Shoestring Collective Pop-Up Shop and The Handmade By Me Online Shop, and various other stockists : )

South African Inspired : )

Yay so the good news is that my Thundafund campaign to move my printing to South Africa was a success : ) I managed to raise over R14 000 and I could not have done it without you my fellow supporters!!! THANK YOU!

For those of you who ordered products through the campaign, I will be in touch shortly to discuss which designs you would like to order for your 100% locally produced Handmade By Me products!

I am also delighted to finally be able to release my new South African inspired top secret design which is exclusive to my Thundafund campaign. I also have another two designs in the same style which you will be able to order going forward. They are all old illustrations of South Africa in the 1800′s printed onto a cotton twill, and I just love the black and white contrast. Available as tea towels, cushion covers and as a set of 8 Napkins.

Grazie Grazia…

Grazia magazine has always been my quick fix when it comes to retail therapy, fashion and celebrity news, and the end of the month! At only R15 a copy, I always manage to justify a copy even when I am completely broke. Anyways as I am such a fan, I was really delighted when they asked me about featuring some of my wallpapers in the latest issue. AND in the same issue they listed The Shoestring Collective as No 2  in their 10 Hot Things To Do this week. yay all round!

Handmade by Me is flooring it…

Floor vinyls for everyone! House and Leisure have listed floor vinyls as no 2 in their “top 26 flooring finishes”. This is what they had to say…”Today’s vinyl is slick, highly durable, easily maintained and installed, cost-effective, and can mimic anything from travertine, quartz and stone to real wood, porcelain and slate.” I can design you your own custom floor finish if you’d like, or pick one of my current designs like my Square Style in Pink as featured in the House and Leisure article below. Origami DIY…

So you might remember the origami birds chair that I reupholstered and upcycled for Oxfam Ireland last year. Well it seems that is has inspired quite a few of you to go on and reupholster chairs of your own using the same origami birds fabric. One of my lovely customers bought a metre of origami birds a few months ago to reupholster a chair of her own, and today she sent me some pics of how her little project turned out. I am so delighted that she is letting me share the pics with you…the chair looks AMAZING!!! And hopefully it will inspire more of you to try this simple and easy way to turn old not so pretty looking furniture into new beautiful statement pieces for your home. yay for upcycling : )

YOU gift guide goodies…

Firstly I want to thank everyone who came to the Stellenbosch markets over the weekend. Despite the raging black southeaster friday night eventually turned out to be a success, and saturday was even better. What a beautiful venue. I really recommend venturing out to the Stellenbosch Slowmarket for their weekly market on a saturday! Oude Libertas is really gorgeous and there don’t seem to be any queues to the toilets or ATM despite the fact that it is a really busy market. There are plenty outdoor areas to hang out on the grass with views across the vineyards, and eat cheese and drink wine, and there’s live music!  I will definitely be back!

And on this pretty dreary looking monday I thought I would show you my products in the YOU magazine Christmas Gift Guide this year! How exciting! And what a great selection. My Pretty Proteas cushion cover is featured in the “In Full Bloom” collection and my Blue Origami Birds Cushion Cover is featured in the “A Natural Thing” collection. See more images below, and both are available from me here.

Here they are on their own…

And then as part of their 101 Bargain Gift Ideas for Christmas, my lovely Pink Flamingo! and Pretty Proteas napkins were featured. Lovely and local : ) See them below.
