scatter love…

Firstly, in conjunction with First Thursdays Cape Town, SAM (our awesome stockist on Bree St…as if you didn’t already know?) would like to invite you to join them for a drink and to pop in for the opening of their latest exhibition in the shop, “South African Bike Builders”.

And on a completely different note, it seems Handmade By Me scatter cushions really seem to be on trend this summer. Here, Essentials magazine has featured both my fly away birds and my birdy num num cushions as part of their “5 hot trends for your home” this January. Ah g’wan!

I am super delighted to let you all know that Handmade By Me is now being stocked by Zola, a beautiful, modern and very unique wedding registry website, based in New York!!! There’s a lot more to Zola than just beautiful gifting ideas, you can buy experiences, and dining, or create a honeymoon or even a wedding fund! This is exactly what we were looking for when we started planning our wedding, and I could kick myself for not having discovered it sooner!!
Here is a little more about what it is that they offer below; or to really see what it’s all about, have a look at their website www.zola.com (warning: it will make you want to get married all over again).

“We are called Zola and we are creating a wedding registry that aims to meet the needs of modern couples. Our goal is to offer products and experiences that couples can get excited about and also better reflect their lives and styles. Today’s engaged couples are passionate about many things – adventurous experiences, decorating their homes, food and wine, world travel, outdoor activities, and more.
Zola is the only site that allows couples to register online for products, experiences, services, cash funds, and anything else from any store. We take care of all transactions on our site, which means your loved ones won’t find themselves bounced to outside sites, and you won’t receive duplicates of third-party items. Say goodbye to those extra gravy boats.
You can customize your registry to make it you – upload your own photos and give show your personality through your registry.”

sentimental home…

I found this lovely piece of writing (below) somewhere in the realm of facebook, and thought that it was the closest thing I have seen yet, which appropriately describes what supporting local designers and makers and their handmade products is all about. It really rings true to me as a maker of products, and the sentiment is very sweet. Unfortunately I could not find the person to credit directly, so please, if any of you know, will you let me know so that I can say thank you for these lovely words.

And with that I would love to share with you this beautiful shoot that Home en Tuis Magazine did with my lovely stockist The Green Elephant Collective. It came out so beautifully, and it really goes to show that you don’t have to completely redo your home to give it a make over.

To the happiest of new years…

I can’t believe that it’s already January again : ) Its 2014 this time, and I have a very good feeling that this year is going be awesome. There are so many exciting things already on the cards…Cape Town is deservedly the World Design Capital 2014 (which means there will be lots of fun to be had and beautiful things to look at in the mother city), Handmade By Me has some new product and design ideas in the pipeline (plus I am going to start painting again which I cannot wait to do), some of my best friends are finally moving back home to this beautiful city, some of my best friends are getting married, beautiful babies are on their way, and most importantly I am getting married to the love of my life and I can’t wait!!!

There is a lot to be excited for this year!

And with that I wish you all a fantastically happy and healthy year ahead!

To mark the first Handmade By Me blogpost of 2014, I thought I would leave you with this little article I discovered by surprise in the latest issue of Ideas magazine. It’s an article all about blogs, and my little Handmade By Me blog which I started right in the beginning, before I even had products to show you so I filled it with soup recipes, has been featured alongside some great local well known and established blogs. I am honoured!
