National Women’s Day SALE

It is National Women’s Day next week, and because we are 2 young women trying to make it in the world of retail, we have decided to offer you all 15% off all purchases from the Handmade By Me + Windowsill shop between now and Saturday August 11th.

Please note the shop is usually closed on public holidays so we will be closed for National Women’s Day which is the 9th, but to make it up to you all, we will be offering the 15% discount off all online orders as well just for the day! Please use the discount code HappyWomensDay when checking out : )

We have also slowly been adding more products to our new BIOTICA range over the past few weeks, which we think have turned out rather nicely, so we thought we’d share with you here : )

Next up will be our muslin baby blankets, burp cloth/bandana bibs and hotel slippers…so watch this space!

Introducing our new range of designs and products

So it’s taken us a little bit longer than we anticipated, but finally we are able to show you some of the product shots of Handmade By Me’s newest range of designs and products.

For the Prickly Pears and African Aloes range, we have introduced these designs across our full range of products including our beautiful LUX Panama Cushion Covers which we sold out of at Kamers recently.

PricklyPearsAndAfricanAloes

We also teamed up these two designs with our Pretty Proteas and Striking Strelitzias designs to bring you our full Cape Floral Kingdom range.

The LUX panama cushion covers are our premium range of cushion covers made using our luxurious quality 100% cotton panama fabric. This fabric is thick and soft, and we have cushion covers available in 60x60cm, and 60x40cm on request. We can also supply you with feather/down inners on request.

NewProducts

We have also introduced a little something for our favourite teeny tiny little customers, Nappy Covers.  These have been made using our beautiful soft 100% cotton. They are available in 5 designs and in 4 sizes: 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months and 18-24 months.

We are also very excited about our new reusable placemat designs, Birds of Paradise and Victoriana, which will be available alongside our Delft and Imari placemat designs in December. Please note that these are available to pre-order in the mean time.

Big 5 poster

You may have seen some pics of our Big 5 range for kids on our social media feeds lately. In Africa, the big five game animals are the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and White/Black rhinoceros. The members of the Big Five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them and the degree of danger involved, rather than their size.

The Big 5 range is available in 50x50cm cushion covers and reusable placemats at the moment, and we will hopefully be introducing these designs in the nappy covers shortly.

For the reusable placemats, each placemat has been laminated so you can use them over and over again, and then when you finally get sick of them you can turn them into face masks in just 3 easy steps. Each set of 5 contains one of each of the Big 5 animals. How fun would a kids party be with these guys!

To make sure that the placemats can easily be turned into face masks, I had to test them out and make a face mask out of each placemat design. Here’s how its done:

errr’body’s going surfing…

One of our lovely stockists on the Gold Coast of Australia, I Just Love That Fabric, sent me these photos last week of what one of their customers did with my Pink Flamingo fabric. They made a SURF BOARD!!!! How unbelievably cool is this? Don’t you just want to learn how to surf immediately so you can have one? Or make space on your wall so you can just look at it?? Ha ha, as you can probably tell, we are very excited about this!!

We are also super excited about our Cape Town cushion being featured as part of their monochrome inspired shop ZA section in this month’s Glamour magazine : )

Oh Christmas Tree…Oh Christmas Tree…

What better a way to end off this crazy crazy year than to show you my Christmas tree that I designed and created for Garden & Home magazine. I am so proud and honoured to have been a part of this, and it really was so much fun, both making it, and shooting it!

I would also love to use this opportunity to thank you all so very much for all the support this year! It has indeed been a crazy one, but Handmade By Me is doing better than ever, and I have lots of lovely tricks up my sleeve for next year. I wish you all a lovely and relaxing festive season, and all the very best for the year ahead.

Origami DIY…

So you might remember the origami birds chair that I reupholstered and upcycled for Oxfam Ireland last year. Well it seems that is has inspired quite a few of you to go on and reupholster chairs of your own using the same origami birds fabric. One of my lovely customers bought a metre of origami birds a few months ago to reupholster a chair of her own, and today she sent me some pics of how her little project turned out. I am so delighted that she is letting me share the pics with you…the chair looks AMAZING!!! And hopefully it will inspire more of you to try this simple and easy way to turn old not so pretty looking furniture into new beautiful statement pieces for your home. yay for upcycling : )

Introducing my new and oh-so-fabulous aprons…

I have been so excited about these for so long as I had to wait untill I had touched down in SA before I could start developing them properly. The vintage ones in particular were something I have always wanted to do and I am super excited about the way they have all turned out! Now the plan is to shoot these all professionally so please excuse the way I have styled the pics for now but I just can’t wait that long to show you…

I have 2 different styles. The 50’s vintage inspired ones which are honestly so beautiful! They are made from a soft 100% cotton (same as my napkins) and there is alot of detailing and pleating and the finishing touches are just so pretty. They wrap generously around the waist with a full glamorous skirt with a matching pocket. You probably won’t want to get these dirty : ) The other style is a standard chef apron made from linen cotton canvas or a strong 100% cotton, these will brighten up any kitchen and are ideal for cooking and/or painting and/or anything and/or just looking pretty : )

All aprons can be made in all designs, vintage and chef styles, and the chef aprons can be made up in kiddies sizes if you want to have matching ones. Try the space rocket solar system or beep beep designs for these.
