Introducing our new range of designs and products

So it’s taken us a little bit longer than we anticipated, but finally we are able to show you some of the product shots of Handmade By Me’s newest range of designs and products.

For the Prickly Pears and African Aloes range, we have introduced these designs across our full range of products including our beautiful LUX Panama Cushion Covers which we sold out of at Kamers recently.

PricklyPearsAndAfricanAloes

We also teamed up these two designs with our Pretty Proteas and Striking Strelitzias designs to bring you our full Cape Floral Kingdom range.

CapeFloral

The LUX panama cushion covers are our premium range of cushion covers made using our luxurious quality 100% cotton panama fabric. This fabric is thick and soft, and we have cushion covers available in 60x60cm, and 60x40cm on request. We can also supply you with feather/down inners on request.

NewProducts

We have also introduced a little something for our favourite teeny tiny little customers, Nappy Covers.  These have been made using our beautiful soft 100% cotton. They are available in 5 designs and in 4 sizes: 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months and 18-24 months.

We are also very excited about our new reusable placemat designs, Birds of Paradise and Victoriana, which will be available alongside our Delft and Imari placemat designs in December. Please note that these are available to pre-order in the mean time.

Big 5 poster

You may have seen some pics of our Big 5 range for kids on our social media feeds lately. In Africa, the big five game animals are the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and White/Black rhinoceros. The members of the Big Five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them and the degree of danger involved, rather than their size.

The Big 5 range is available in 50x50cm cushion covers and reusable placemats at the moment, and we will hopefully be introducing these designs in the nappy covers shortly.

For the reusable placemats, each placemat has been laminated so you can use them over and over again, and then when you finally get sick of them you can turn them into face masks in just 3 easy steps. Each set of 5 contains one of each of the Big 5 animals. How fun would a kids party be with these guys!

To make sure that the placemats can easily be turned into face masks, I had to test them out and make a face mask out of each placemat design. Here’s how its done:

Kamers and The Constantia Gift Fair…

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came to visit and supported us and Windowsill this last week at KAMERS. Despite the 40 degree heat on the first day, and the torrential storm that saw Kamers close its doors early on the last day, we really had such a wonderful time.

We launched our new Prickly Pears, African Aloes and Big 5 designs, as well as our new nappy covers, and we had our new Big 5 reusable placemats that turn into face masks on display. We are very busy editing all the new product photos this week, which we will share with you right here very soon, and we will be adding the new products to our online shop as soon as we can. In the meantime please email us if you would like to place an order.

Here are some of the photos we shared over the last week.

For those of you from Cape Town who might have missed out on Kamers, we have some good news for you. The lovely Flick Inc will be taking a selection of our products to The Constantia Gift Fair which will be taking place at SARDA in Constantia from the 4th to the 8th of November – that’s this weekend!

new designs on the way (sneak peek)

We are so unbelievably excited about our new designs that we just can’t wait to show you what we have been up to lately! We are still busy printing the fabric to make into various products, but here is a little sneak preview of the designs behind the products and what you can expect from us in the coming weeks. We are hoping to launch our new designs and products at Kamers in Stellenbosch from 27 October – 1 November.

Ever since I designed the Pretty Proteas and Striking Strelitzias patterns I have wanted to do another pattern using a similar South African-inspired, plant/flower-related geometric style pattern. I have thought about all kinds of different plants and flowers but finally decided to use the Aloe Ferox for inspiration, not only because it is indigenous to South Africa, but because it lends itself so well to the geometric style of the design and because it is just so bloody gorgeous! When I see one of these anywhere, it always makes me think of home.

I have been a little plant besotted of late (can you tell?), and the one plant that always makes me ooh and ah every time I see it or see a picture of it, is the Prickly Pear cactus. I also once found a super cute illustrated children’s book with a picture of a sad little prickly pear cactus on the front who spent the whole book looking for someone who would give him a hug – it still makes me smile every time I think of it.

Both these designs will be available in cushion covers, napkins and tea towels to start, and then eventually available in our full range of products.

For all the cool kids out there, I have designed a new Big 5 inspired range of prints. Something little more modern for today’s generation, but which still captures the beautiful bright colours and busyness that Africa is all about! Well here’s my take on our Big 5. These prints will be available in cushion covers, pillowcases and eventually nappy covers.

We hope you like what you see. The designs are all available for pre-order so please chat to us if you want to be the first to get your hands on these guys. We would also like to invite you to come and see our new designs and products at Kamers at Webersburg in Stellenbosch between 27 October and 1 November.

some August media lovin…

We have been very lucky this last month with products being featured in all sorts of different magazines and blogs. We thought we might share our August media love with you here on our blog.

Not only was our newly launched Geometric Orange LUX Panama Cushion chosen as one of 100 Beautiful Things in association with Visi at 100% Design, it was also selected as part of The 100% Design Edit in the Sunday Times Home Weekly section.

House & leisure magazine think our quirky Shweshwe Shields in Pink tea towel is a great way to introduce pattern into your kitchen. We couldn’t agree more!

Living and Loving magazine looked at choosing which colours will work best for your nursey and decided our Orange Squares cushion cover would be a perfect match.  “While red is a fiery, volatile and energetic colour that should only be used as an accent colour in small amounts in a nursery, orange offers a similar look that’s friendly, welcoming and vibrant.”

The Sunday Times Home Weekly thought our small Feisty Floral Watercolour on Blue lampshade brightened up their Nature-Inspired Edit. SundayTimes_230815SundayTimes_230815_2 FeistyFloralBlue_L_200d_4

Now available at LoveLeeHome (Australia)…

I am delighted to introduce to you a brand new stockist called LoveLeeHome in Australia. It is a lifestyle and accessories online shop based in Australia. They have a gorgeous array of products across lots of different categories, and all from different parts of the world. They have Handmade by Me stock over there, so if you live in Oz, this is probably the quickest way to get your hands on my products.

Here is what the owner Cara Lee, who is originally from South Africa, has to say about her new venture…

“Developed on a shoe-string and a prayer, LoveLeeHome is my dream, a long time in the making, brought to life. I’ve always had a strong idea of what I wanted the end product to be, and getting there has been no small feat, but such an exciting adventure too. When you’re pouring every spare moment you have working on a project, but it doesn’t feel like work, that’s when you’re doing something you love.

Having relocated to Australia from my native South Africa, I was inspired by the thought of new beginnings and adventures, which coupled with my love and passion for all things home, sparked an idea which ultimately blossomed into LoveLeeHome. I wanted to create an online platform offering a curated collection of products for the home and the designer woman that weren’t widely available in Australia, so I set about finding suppliers and products that would meet that brief. Essentially, if I loved it and would want it in my home AND if it was something a little different, a little unique and perhaps even quirky, then it was a must! Having worked in the South African home décor / textile industry prior to moving to Australia, I knew that there was a wealth of amazingly talented designers in South Africa who are manufacturing products of a world class standard, so I figured what better way to start than with the products I already knew and loved. The idea continued to evolve culminating in a handful of talented designers from South Africa and the rest of the world on board. Many months and endless hours later here we are, ready to showcase to the rest of the world just what Love Lee Home has to offer.”

And here are some of the cool things available at LoveLeeHome ( other than Handmade By Me obvs ; ) )
